The EDC invites business owners and startup entrepreneurs to free lunchtime EDC Business Labs, showcasing programs, connections and tools available to help businesses start, grow, or expand their enterprises. The EDC Business Labs lunchtime series starts on October 23 with a presentation and conversation with Neil Subhash from the SBA.

Commercial Real Estate Financing – November 13

Learn about the four basic programs that Heritage Bank and other local banks offer small businesses!

EDC invites business owners to a FREE online EDC Business Lab event entitled Commercial Real Estate Financing, on Wednesday, November 13th from Noon – 1:00 pm, led by Tim Northrop, SVP, Commercial Banking Officer at Heritage Bank via Zoom. Any small business owner who is looking to finance their business can attend this FREE workshop for an overview of commercial real estate financing.

In this workshop, the four basic programs that Heritage Bank and other local banks have to offer will be covered:

  1. Conventional Loan Structure
  2. SBA504 Loans
  3. HBCDE (Heritage Bank Community Development Entity) Loan Program
  4. SSCBI (Washington State Small Business Credit Initiative) Loan Program

The workshop will be led by Tim Northrop, SVP, Commercial Banking Officer at Heritage Bank who has been with Heritage Bank since 2000, and previously a consultant at the Washington State Small Business Development Center (SBDC). He has served as a Branch Manager and Commercial Banking Team Leader in the Skagit and Whatcom County markets. Currently, Tim’s focus is 100% on small business lending and his customers seek his expertise in small business banking and residential spec construction. He’s also enthusiastic about supporting his community. He is a member of the Bellingham Sunrise Rotary and serves on the board and treasurer of Whatcom Skagit Housing.

Succession Planning for Small Business – October 29

Plan for an effective transition for your business.

EDC invites business owners to a Free online event, Succession Planning for Small Business, on Tuesday, October 29th from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., led by Lorena Lowell. Anyone who is planning to retire, to sell a business, or to grow future leaders within their business should attend this Free workshop for an overview of succession planning.

All business owners should have a succession plan for their business. With a succession plan, business owners can identify a person or entity to continue the business if a tragedy strikes or when the business owner decides to retire or sell.

The workshop will be led by Lorena Lowell, Program Director for the Office of the EOP Employee Ownership at the Washington State Department of Commerce/Office of Economic Development & Competitiveness Small Business Finance Services.

Planificación de la sucesión para pequeñas empresas – October 29

EDC invita a los dueños de negocios a un evento gratuito en línea, Planificación de la Sucesión para Pequeñas Empresas, el martes 29 de octubre de 11:00 a.m. a 12:00 p.m., dirigido por Lorena Lowell. Cualquier persona que esté planeando jubilarse, vender un negocio o desarrollar futuros líderes dentro de su negocio debe asistir a este taller gratuito para obtener una descripción general de la planificación de la sucesión.

Todos los propietarios de negocios deben tener un plan de sucesión para su negocio. Con un plan de sucesión, los propietarios de negocios pueden identificar a una persona o entidad para continuar con el negocio si ocurre una tragedia o cuando el propietario del negocio decide retirarse o vender.

El taller será dirigido por Lorena Lowell, Directora del Programa de la Oficina de Propiedad de Empleados de EOP en el Departamento de Comercio del Estado de Washington/Oficina de Servicios Financieros para Pequeñas Empresas del Departamento de Desarrollo Económico y Competitividad.

Small Business Association (SBA) – October 23

Funding Your Business Needs with the SBA

The EDC invites business owners and startup entrepreneurs to a free online EDC Business Lab event entitled Funding Your Business Needs, held in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), showcasing SBA loan programs to help businesses secure the funding they need, on Wednesday, October 23rd from noon-1p.m.

From $500 to $5 million, the SBA has the resources and technical assistance business owners need for their enterprises, and works to ignite change and spark action so small businesses can confidently start, grow, expand, or recover.  With programs for small business counseling, access to capital, contracting with the federal government and more, there are many ways the SBA works to support small businesses.

Business owners can join Neil Subhash from the SBA Seattle District staff for an overview of SBA loan programs, how to find a local SBA lender, and technical assistance to help prepare funding requests. Mr. Subhash is an Outreach and Marketing Specialist for the Seattle District of the U.S. Small Business Administration, focused on increasing access to SBA programs and resources for current and aspiring small business owners.

Prior to joining the SBA, Neil worked as a Business Coach and Trainer in the Food Business Resource Center at Business Impact NW. As a small business owner and active member with various local nonprofit organizations, Neil is passionate about the value small businesses bring to their communities and dedicated to supporting them at every stage.
